Presented by Bam Mendiola, winner of the 2019 Outdoor Industry Association’s Together We Are a Force award. Bam’s work has recently been featured by NBC, REI and Mountainfilm Festival.
In this workshop, we will hold space for our social locations and discover how we can use our positionality and privilege to act in solidarity with targeted communities. Bam Mendiola (they/them) will share the mistakes they have made, the lessons they have learned and the internalized oppression they are always unlearning. Mendiola is a national speaker, published writer and diversity consultant. Their work is informed by their social location as a queer, non-binary person of color and has been recently featured by NBC, REI and Mountainfilm Festival. Their NBC documentary has received over 200,000 views and their essays have been featured on the covers of Washington Trails and Mountaineer Magazine. Mendiola was recently named the winner of the 2019 Outdoor Industry Association’s Together We Are a Force award and lives on occupied Duwamish territory in Seattle.
