Sentences with shape and purpose make a successful story. Explore sentence construction, themes, intent and methods to craft prose that teaches about the human condition. Presented by Seth Riley.

Every successful short story is comprised of sentences that have shape and purpose. This class will explore the methods of well-crafted prose and will demonstrate the possibility for fiction to teach us something of our human condition. By looking at the themes, sentence construction, and intent of a story, we will discover the highest aims and abilities of short fiction.

By the end of the session, attendees will be able to analyze the makeup of fictional diction and composition, critically vocalize how diction influences story, and begin to consider how their own language influences their prose.
