Whidbey Reads Presents

Introduction to Storytelling

Barry McWilliams, President of the Seattle Storytellers Guild, will present a workshop on storytelling and how to craft and adapt personal stories.

Barry McWilliams has been a storyteller since the mid 1980's and his storytelling website is one of the oldest on the web.  He told stories over the years in schools, libraries and story concerts and epic events. The Seattle Storytellers Guild is an organization devoted to encouraging oral storytelling and storytellers in their craft in the region for over 45 years.

This workshop will include exercises on what is the "form of story"- Beginning, Middle (plot) and End.  And its elements: Characters, Circumstances, Conflicts leading to Crisis, Climax and Conclusion - i.e. what makes a story a story.  Barry will have tips on how to craft and learn a story and have an exercise on how to find your own personal stories.  Handout materials and additional resources will be provided, as well as a list of suggested additional reading.
